Foundry in a Box activity is the 2nd Annual Dragons Makerfaire
Fun Playing in Sand in Michigan During Winter
The biggest snowstorm of the season that hit SE Michigan the day before didn’t stop over 200 student participants and volunteers from the Detroit-Windsor and Saginaw Valley AFS Chapters, LOHS National Honor Society and Romeo Engineering Technology Center helpers from playing in the sand and experiencing making their own castings.
This was a great way to inaugurate the newly revised DWAFS Foundry-In-a-Box (FIB) kit!
Over the last year, members of the DWAFS chapter have been assisting the SVC AFS chapter with their many FIB events and they have helped get our kit ready to host an event like the recent Feb. 10th Dragon Maker Faire held at Lake Orion High School.
The DWAFS FIB, actually in (2) boxes, now has (75) patterns offering a wide selection of castings for the students to make, safety glasses, (12) molding stations with utility box flasks and the needed rammers, K-bond sand, melt station and Sn melt stock, and finishing tools.
The only thing needed is volunteers to help show the student participants that making casting is both interesting and fun.
